15 Thing Friday

1. Our AC was broken when we moved into our new apartment. The maintenance guy has now been out 4 times and each time swears it's fixed. Nope. Still not fixed. I can't be mad though because the guy was like "each time I see you called in an issue I come to you first because I know you have this adorable little baby." Awwwww. Ok. Fine. I don't need working AC in 85*+ temps. (Edited to add: I started this post last week and never got around to adding enough to post it. The AC has since been fixed. THANK GOD.)

2. We started solids with Bailey. I won't go into much detail (on this post) but let me just say OMG the poop totally changes. Can we get the old poop back? Never thought I'd ever say a sentence like that.

3. It was the Hubs birthday yesterday. We're having his family bday dinner this weekend. I'm in charge of the dessert and when I asked him what he wanted he said an ice cream sundae bar. Who is he? Cake? Brownies? Cookies? Pie? Nah. I'm 100% cool with it and love ice cream, but I just find it so random. Maybe I'm the freak and it's totally normal?

4. Because of said dessert request, B and I have a mission today to find all things ice cream. Wish us luck.

5. Speaking of the Hubs birthday... he now works in an office where people celebrate birthdays and such (you know, instead of the 3 person office he used to work in). So, people bring donuts in for their birthdays to celebrate. 2 things about this... (see #6 & #7)

6. Why would the person whose birthday it is bring in donuts? Shouldn't the boss bring in donuts to celebrate their employees birthday or a co-worker or something? Just seems weird to me.

7. He didn't save me a donut. Epic fail. This calls for a Dunkin' expedition for me today. Totally justified.

8. #7 is pretty fitting as today is National Donut Day! Why are there and who invented all these random National Whatever Days? Don't we have enough holidays? Not that I'm complaining today. Hello. Donuts. Enough said.

9. Random fact of the day: There are twice as many kangaroos in Australia as there are people. The kangaroo population is estimated at about 40 million. (source)

10. I'm not one to get political or controversial via blog, but I kinda love this

11. Since I'm already going there, can I please tell you how freaking ANGRY it makes me that the world is OK with essentially naked pictures of Rihanna, but pictures of a mother breastfeeding her baby are controversial?
Why, world? Why? Baby's gotta eat. Rihanna's just naked. Which is fine. Be naked. Totally up to you. But, why are pics of this on FB ok, but pics of a mother breastfeeding are flagged as PORN? Seriously. I just don't get the world sometimes.

12. And, PS- I don't think her dress is "one of the most powerful feminist statements the pop world has made to date". I think it's a dress and she was trying to cause a stir and she did. End of story. Feminism is about a whole lot more than being mostly naked.

13. It's FRIDAY! Which doesn't mean a whole in the SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) world, but it DOES mean the Hubs is home all weekend which makes for a happy Meagan. I sorta like him still.

14. I'm ending with 14 because Bailey is battling naps because of a little terror named teething. UGH. I'm out.

2 runs, some music and a lil' basketball talk

Yay for it being Wednesday already!!! Happy Hump Day!!!

This week has been DRAGGING, so I'll take the mid-way point any day! The Hubs and I have big plans this weekend-- holiday parties, seeing some out of town fam, a new tapas restaurant to try out, maybe ice skating, I'm proctoring another exam, and (of course) big long run plans! I'm planning to mix it up this weekend and am going to try to do back-to-back long (but not toooo long) runs, Saturday and then Sunday. We'll see. However the runs pan out-- the weekend can't get here soon enough.

Speaking of running, last night I got out for a quick 3.75 (I did 4.25 miles at lunch, so the weird distances were to make it an even 8 for the day) miles after work.

Surprisingly, it didn't feel TOO rough to keep the sub 9 pace even with TIIIIIRED legs. I went to Signature Strength yesterday morning and OMG. Killed. The annoying teacher is GONE (YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!) and the Thursday instructor who I love and is crazy hard core is now bother Tuesday and Thursday. EXCELLENT! But, man oh' man! Killed me. Seriously-- it hurt to move my arms to shampoo my hair after. Crazy. Anyway, the run at lunch was ROUGH (10:00 pace), but the run after work seemed to be weirdly easy. I think a lot of that has to do with running inside on a track versus outside. I know people say running inside on a track or TM is SO MUCH EASIER because you don't have any elevation and blah, blah, blah. Whatever. I disagree. The TM and indoor track are SO MUCH HARDER because it's mentally SUCH a bigger battle. Anyway-- I ended the day with 8 miles. Pretty good for a Tuesday!

Oh! And, I made a new playlist last night and thought I'd share.

I don't do the whole run without music craziness, so mixing up the playlist is essential to me.

After the run and making a new playlist and packing lunches for today and making and eating dinner (phew!), the Hubs and i watched the Purdue basketball game. They finally won ! A boilermaker victory ALWAYS makes for a happy Hubs. My Illini team also won yesterday... though apparently (I didn't watch) it was too close for comfort. C'mon, boys! We've actually got a good team this year, so that's exciting!! So far, we're UNDEFEATED! And, RANKED!! #13, baby!!! WOOWOO!!! I feel like this MIGHT just be my year (FINALLY!) to win the me v. the Hubs bet: Purdue v. Illini basketball game. The loser has to do the dishes for a week. C'mon Illini!! This is our year. The game's not til January 2, so we'll see then!!

Don't Judge Me

This weekend was a whirlwind!

Friday night the Hubs and I booked it outta town to head into Kalamazoo, Michigan (about an hour and fifteen away) for a friends birthday party. I happened to find a possible new couch for us on craigslist that was in K-Zoo, so we stopped to check that out on our way. Sadly, the guy sold it to someone else WHILE WE WERE THERE. Omg. I was so pissed. Had we driven ALL THE WAY THERE just to see the couch I would’ve been really ticked. Whatever. Luckily, it was on our way so it’s cool.

Plus, we got pizza after. YUM! I got a SUPER thin “Atkins” (btw, I’m TOTALLY against Atkins… I just wanted a thin crust) crust w/ BBQ sauce, chicken, grilled peppers (told you I was obsessed!) and onion, and low-fat cheese. AMAZINGLY good.

I only ate 2 pieces, I swear. But, let's be honest... that's only because I STUFFED myself with the below breadsticks. Worth. Every. Bite.

What was better than this amazing pizza? THESE:
OMG. OMG. OMG. Seriously. Best breadsticks evvvvver. If you’re ever in Kalamzoo, Michigan, go to Erbelli’s and order the pizza bread. You’ll thank me. I promise.

We had a great time stuffing ourselves and then hanging out with some great friends. Happy Birthday, L!!

After the bday festivities, we headed to Matt’s parents to stay the night so we could get up the next day to celebrate Father’s Day! 3 trips to the grocery store, jalapeno in the eye, some AMAZING food and even better ice cream sundaes. What more could you ask for in a holiday?

We went grocery shopping Saturday night when we got back into town and then chilled at home with left over pizza and a redbox.
This movie BEYOND sucked. Save your $1.28. Really.

I passed out early in hopes of getting my 14 mile LR in, despite the impending weather forecast of storms all day.

Sunday I woke up at 7am to crazy rain.
Back to bed for me. I actually got outta bed around 8 and (because it was still raining) decided to go to the gym to try to get a few miles on the TM and a spinning class.

Got to the gym 35 minutes before spinning, so I got 3.5 miles in and went to Spinning.

I planned on doing 3 more after spinning, but about 5 minutes into the class decided I wanted to go for the full 14. So, I hopped out of the spinning class after 30 minutes and hit the treadmill again. I got the other 10.5 miles in with a bathroom break, a break to get a new towel (b/c I drenched mine in sweat) and a quick 10 –min elliptical break to just get off the damn TM because I was SO BORED. Even watching Pretty Little Liars didn’t keep me too entertained. Thank goodness for Netflix Instant, though.
Why yes, yes that is Pretty Little Liars on Netflix Instant. Don't judge me!

14 miles, 30 minutes of spinning, and 20 minutes on the elliptical (I did 10 more min as a cool down after the run) and I was DONEZO. I was BEYOND over being at the gym. When I went to my car it was (of course) PERFECT running weather. A little warm. A tad humid. But, really—it would’ve been amazing. Figures. Oh well.
I was CRAZY sweaty after this workout. Possibly the sweatiest I've ever been. I had to trade in for a new towel THREE times. Again, don't judge.

When I got home, I chugged some chocolate milk and then the Hubs and I did 8-Minute Arms and 8-Minute Abs. Ok, actually I tried to drink this WHILE doing the workout. That was interesting. Don't judge me.
Love this old school DVD. The guys outfit is PERFECTION.

Egg Sandwich heaven for lunch on Sunday. The best meal EVER after a long run. Hits the spot every, single time.
2 egg whites with a slice of red fat colby jack on a TJ's sandwich thin. Baked tortilla chip and TJs salsa on the side. Yum, yum, yuuuum!!

After lunch, the Hubs and I went to see this crazy movie:

The Hubs had to bribe me with appropriate snacks. Duh.
White Cheddar Popcorn + SF Red Vines = MEAGAN IS SOLD!

The Hubs LOVED the movie. I thought it was MEH. Very, very meh. At best. Just not my thing, I guess. Didn’t help that about 30 minutes before it ended a HUGE, KILLER headache came on. I realized then that I hadn’t had ANY caffeine all day. Now, this might mean nothing to you, but this is BIG for me. The headache kept getting WORSE and WORSE. When we got home I was in more pain than I’ve almost ever felt. Not lying. I chugged a Diet Pepsi and took 2 ibuprofen and laid down in our dark bedroom with a pillow over my eyes. And started crying. THAT’S how bad it hurt. No joke. I don’t know what happened or why it came on so fast and so intense, but OMG. Pain. Lots of pain. I laid there for over an hour. The meds and/or caffeine didn’t really help much. It hurt to move. I finally got up and had an English muffin pizza (thanks, Hubs!). The food helped. I could actually watch TV, as long as I didn’t move. I decided just to call it a night at 8:30 in hopes I would just be able to sleep it off.

It worked. I woke up today feeling 100% normal. Stupid headaches. Oh well. I survived.

Today I started my week off with a 5am gym session. Best way to start the week! 1 60-minute spinning class and 2 miles on the treadmill. I did another 3 miles on the indoor track and 20 minutes on the elliptical at lunch.
Nothing super special about either run. I felt like I was (and meant to!) going WAY slower than that, but I’ll take it.

I also downloaded this song over the weekend:
It's just so catchy!!!! And, you KNOW you know the dance moves. Admit it. C'mon. I love it!

Again, don't judge me. Ok... fine. It’s OK. You can judge me. I judged me a little. I just can’t help it. I looove this song. No apologies.

We Are Young

Yesterdays second work out (yes, I realize how that sounds) was pretty non-eventful. 4 easy, slow miles on the indoor track at work. I still got good n’ sweaty, though. My co-workers LOVED me when I came back. ;) Oh, and I somehow convinced the Hubs to do 8-Minute Abs and 8-Minute Arms with me after work while dinner was in the oven. I could definitely get used to working out together… we’ll see if it’ll become a habit.

Today’s workout was also pretty low-key. Spinning class where the instructor actually played GOOD music—gasp! It’s amazing, really, how big of a difference the music can make a spinning class. I feel the same way about music when running. Once I forgot my iPod at a friend’s house so she had to mail it to me (THANK YOU, L!!). However, I knew I wouldn’t get it via mail for a few days and I PANICKED. I literally made the Hubs go to Wal-Mart with me THAT DAY to get a new pair of head phones so I could use my iPhone during the next days run, which I promptly dropped in the first 30 seconds of the run… this is why I can’t have nice things. I cannot run without music. After spinning I did 2 quick miles on the treadmill in 17:46. In honor of all this music talk, here’s a few of the songs that I’ve been obsessed with during runs lately…

-“E.T.” – Katy Perry featuring Kayne West (best version—for sure)
-“’Til I Collapse” – Eminem
-“Do Somthin’” – Britney Spears
-“Enchanted” – Taylor Swift
-“Girlfriend” – Daniel Bedingfield
-“Good Life” – Kayne West
-“Dog Days Are Over” – Florence and the Machine
-“Sweetness” – Jimmy Eat World
-“Faster” – Third Eye Blind
-“King of Anything” – Sara Bareilles
-“I Forgive You” – Kelly Clarkson

And, my biggest most recent obsession song:

“We Are Young” by Fun. (featuring Janelle Monae)

I could listen to this song over and over and over and over. Obsessed.
