Basketball, Babies and Burpees

Well, my weekend did not start off the greatest foot thanks to my dearest Illini.

Wah, wah. Oh well. Next year.

Anyway, the rest of my weekend was pretty fantastic.

Friday night started with a Baby Gender Reveal party for a friend of mine. It was super fun to have all of us together and to get to find out if our friend is having a boy or a girl. Possibly the best part of the night?? When the Hubs realized he was wearing TWO DIFFERENT SHOES.

Who does that?!?!? How did he not notice when he put them on?? Even more-- he didn't notice til we were walking into the party. We drove over an hour to get there and he didn't notice. GOOOOOOF. And, of COURSE, I walked into the party telling everyone "Look at Matt's shoes, look at Matt's shoes, look at Matt's shoes". Poor Hubs. :)

Anyway, the night was great.. good surprise, good food, good friends, goofy Hubs, great night.

Saturday started with a trip to the gym. I know-- shocker. To be fair, I was going to do my long run Saturday, but when the weather looked like this, I opted to move the long run to Sunday.
I'll take 1 degree warmer and less of a chance for snow/rain ANYDAY.

Anyway, my Saturday gym session started with a few miles on the good ol' treadmill and then the 9am Unleashed class.

Love, love, looove this class lately. We did like 8 trillion burpees. I swear to all that I know I thought my legs were legit going to fall off.

Saturday continued with our biweekly shopping trip. $120 later, we are STOCKED for the next 14 days.
Note: This is about HALF the bags... maybe not even half. We went to THREE different stores.

I have a confession... I kinda love grocery shopping. However, surprising no one, shopping on Friday night, which the Hubs and I normally do because we're so cool, is MUCH less crazy and MUCH more fun than shopping on a Saturday afternoon. Good God, the number of screaming kids and women who ran into me with their carts was too many to count.

The rest of Saturday was spent on the couch with my 3 current loves... ok, 2 forever loves and 1 current love: the Hubs, Sadie, and Dawson's Creek. I'll let you decide which are forever and which is only current.

Sunday was long run day! I told the Hubs I was going out for 10. Yeaaaaah. 10 didn't happen. FIFTEEN did!!!! I really have no idea how or why, as I was dreading the run and practically had to force myself out the door, but by 10 steps in, I knew it was gonna be a great run.

I know that says 13.1. It's lying. Stupid Garmin took 1.5 miles to catch satellite. Luckily I run the same route and have it basically memorized, so I knew how much distance to add. I stopped to snap this pic so I'd know what I did the half in even though I had 1.5 miles before this, so it wasn't exactly a half, but I still wanted to know what the time for 13.1 was. I'm a freak. I know. Anyway, after taking this pic I did .4 more (sloooow, cool down) to make it an even 15.

LOVED this run. Loved every step. The weather was great... a little cold and windy, but great. Every step felt amazing. I finished with a freaking 8:45 average pace and I never really felt like I was running HARD. In fact, I even thought I was going SLOW at some points (I never looked at my watch so during the run I had no idea how fast/slow I was actually going). Crazy talk. WHO AM I?!?!?

Anyway-- after those glorious 15 miles, the Hubs and I took Sadie for a quick 2 mile walk.

How could I not have taken her for a walk when I got home and she was just sitting there waiting for me like this?? TOO CUTE.

The rest of Sunday was spent lounging around, doing some food prep for the week, and the Hubs and I even started a puzzle. PARTY ANIMALS over here. Be jealous.

LR and a Cadbury Egg

PHEW! I honestly cannot believe it's only Tuesday. And, Tuesday morning at that! There are a lot of crazy things happening at work right now, but before we get to that, let's back up to the weekend...

I was out of town Thursday-Friday night for a conference, so when I got back Friday night the Hubs and I did our now bi-weekly grocery trip. Man! It's definitely nice to not have to go every week, but the trip when we do go is much more intense now! $120 later and we were back home. An episode of Dawson's Creek later and I was passed out.

Saturday morning I was up early to hit the gym for 5 miles and an Unleashed class. I'm LOVING the Saturday Unleashed class lately. Such a fun, nice change. And, the fact that it doesn't start til 9am and not at the butt-crack of dawn is a big added bonus.

After class I cashed in a Groupon deal I bought fooooorever ago for a shellac manicure and pedicure!
This was my first experience with shellac and I am in LOVE. 4 days later (and lots of dish-duty later), the nails still look that good. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. And, a pedicure is ALWAYS great! Definitely worth the $35 groupon price I paid. I have no idea how much a shellac mani is regular price, but I might start doing a little research. Nothing I'd do regularly, but a nice treat every once in a while.

Saturday night we went to the in-laws for a Mexican fiesta! Always fun! :)

Sunday I was up early-ish again for my first true long run in aggggges. Like, I'm talking since January.

13.1 miles later, I felt great! I managed to keep a sub 9:00 pace and finish the run in well under 2:00. While I'm not alllllll about the long runs right now, it felt good to get out there and have the legs moving for so long. The weather was a little chilly, but overall great for a run. It was definitely one of those "Weeeeeeeee!!! I looooove running!!!!!" kinda runs.

Post run the Hubs and I did some errand running, including going on a mad-hunt for Laffy Taffy jelly beans we saw at the in-laws house. 4 stores later (yes, you read right-- I made the Hubs check FOUR stores!) and we still couldn't track them down. FAIL. I'm still on the look out. They sound SOOOOOO good. Despite our fail this weekend, we did snag one of these yummy easter-time-only treats for each of us.
PURE perfection.

The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing and prepping food for all week: 1 loaf of fresh homemade bread, 3 lunches worth of egg salad (6 boiled eggs, tossing 1/2 the yolks) and 2 cups of brown rice, and a beef something crock pot meal (for the Hubs).

The weekend FLEW by!

This week is going to be a LONG week at work. Luckily, I'm leaving the office early Wednesday for our tax appointment. Like I mentioned, lots of craziness is happening at my work (which I obviously won't go into any more detail on) so lunch time workouts are a rarity and my general work load is increasing exponentially. It's just getting super hectic. Prime example? Last night I didn't leave work til....

That's be 8:47PM. And, this morning I was at my desk by...
11 hours in between. Some people SLEEP for over 11 hours a night, let alone only have 11 to commute, pack lunches and prep for the next day, get ready for bed, actually sleep, get up and shower and get ready and then commute again. And, yes-- you read right. Workout was definitely NOT listed in that list and did not happen this morning. Sleep trumped workout. And I'm not even a little sorry. I'm HOPING to squeeze a mid-day workout in today and think I have enough time between meetings (sorry I'm not sorry for not showering after, coworkers!). We'll see. Fingers crossed! :)

TOO COLD! So, I had to get creative!

OK, OK-- I admit it. The sucktastic weather has effected my workouts. Who wants to go for a run outside when the weather looks like this:

I mean... do you see the "feels like"??? -12. NOT HAPPENING. So, my workouts have had to adjust because a long run in that is just NOT HAPPENING when I'm not even training for anything. Simple as that.

So, I'm adjusting. Today, that means a random rest day. Ideal? No, but it is what it is. Yesterday I had the day off (yay!) so I hit the gym for a 9am Signature Strength class. Saturday and Sunday were gym days, too. Sunday I did 7 miles on the treadmill and 30 EASY minutes on the elliptical. Saturdays are normally my long run days and I didn't want to give up that extra long sweat session just because mother natures being a B. So, I got creative.

Creative and maybe a little insane?

I got to the gym around 8:45am for a 9am Unleashed class, but decided I didn't want to waste 15 minutes so I got a quick 1.5 miles in. Unleashed KILLED me... just thinking about it makes me shiver. Box jumps, pulls ups (assisted), push ups, more burpees than I can count, jumping jacks, kettle ball swings, clean presses, and more, more, more. I was SPENT, so I walked out as they were cooling down with every intention of going home. Buuut, then I walked by the treadmill and it called to me. I have no idea why. I'm insane. So, I did 4.5 miles on that. And, by then I was in full-blown sweat-addict mode so I stayed for a 60 minute power yoga class (still hate yoga, btw) and then 2 more miles. Insane? Yes. AMAZING? Absolutely.
See that pic of me next to the treadmill times? Yeaaaah-- that's how I felt by the end of my THREE HOUR workout. SPENT. DONE. DEAD. So, I showered at the gym and booked it home with every intention of plopping on the couch and not moving.

Well, then I got home and the Hubs had an hour left of some crazy long BORING movie he started while I was gone (just how long? He STARTED the movie 5 minutes after I left. It was a FOUR + hour movie. Whhhhhy???? Clearly we have different movie tastes.). I mean-- what choice did I have? Sit and watch him watch a movie? No thanks. So, the Sadster and I took a walk.
It was windy and cold, but actually not too bad. Nice enough that I totally could have and should have gone for a long run, but whatever. I got a killer workout in and it was a nice change of pace.

So, I ended the day with:
50 minute Unleashed Class
60 minute Power Yoga Class
2 mile walk
8 miles on TM

In ONE DAY. Again, crazy? Yup. I CLEARLY don't do this often, but I had a free morning and felt in the zone so I went with it.

And, when I was done-- I sat my ass on the couch ALL DAY watching One Tree Hill (still obsessed, though this newest season w/o Luke or Peyton is LAME. But, I can't stop. It's a problem, I know.), except when I napped while the Hubs watched the Purdue basketball game (side note: they won! yay!). I haven't NAPPED in forever. I was seriously SO tired. WAY more tired than after a typical long run. I even had the Hubs bring me home fro yo when he had to run to the office that night. Laziness at it's finest. Hey... it's all about balance, remember?

This week was kinda an unintentional step back week... just didn't quite have the time I usually have and was outta town all weekend. I did get 2 pretty solid speed runs in through-- 1 intentional, 1 not. Was happy to get 3 different types of gym classes  and an Insanity workout in too! It's always good to mix it up a bit. Overall, a solid week, I'd say!

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday

Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday!

Hey-- at least it's not Monday.

But, before we talk about Tuesday, let's talk about Monday.

I'm trying SO HARD to get up in the morning and hit the gym at my not-so-usual-anymore 5:30am group classes. It's just SOOOO hard sometimes. Monday was one of those times. I didn't sleep great and when I found myself up at 4am, I knew 5am wasn't gonna happen so I reset the alarm for 6:30 and tried to get a bit more shut eye. Stupid. I never really got back to bed so I should've just gotten up and went to the gym at 5am. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Oh well.

After a busy day at work I decided to hit the gym for a 5:45pm Unleashed class. What is Unleashed again?

Basically, it's similar to an Insanity type workout. Insanity (and Unleashed) = insane. Just for the record.

Anyway, the class didn't start til 5:45pm, so I had a little time to kill. Enter, treadmill.

Yes, I was rockin' compression sleeves.

I was a little nervous to even attempt to run, since I ran long Saturday and then got 6+ in again on Sunday. So, I set it for just over a 10:00 pace and hopped on. I was pleasantly surprised to feel great! I felt like I was going SO SLOW, but kept the pace steady and just called it a warm-up before the class started. I got 1.5 miles in in just under 15 minutes. Slow, but felt great! It's crazy how sometimes that pace can feel like I'm CRAWLING and like I could carry on a full conversation with no problems and sometimes that pace feels like death. Oh, running. That's why I love/hate you.

Me post run, but pre-Unleashed.

5:45pm rolled around and it was time to head to the gym for Unleashed.

I always know this class is rough, but I kinda forget just how rough til I walk in and see all the stations and then it all comes flooding back. Burpees, squats, lungs... yeaaaah. Intense.

Just how intense? Well, below was the WARM UP.
100 jumping jacks, 50 alternating lunges, then ran 2 laps SPRINTED around the gym.
100 jacks, 40 alt. lunges, 2 laps.
100 jacks, 30 alt. lunges, 2 laps.
100 jacks, 20 alt. lunges, 2 laps.
100 jacks, 10 alt. lunges, 2 laps.

Not a math major? That ended up being:
   - 500 jumping jacks
   - 150 alternating lunges
   - 10 laps sprinted around gym

As a warm up.

I was chatting with the Hubs after and we both agreed-- that should be called part one of the workout rather than the warm up. For real.

Back to the class... after completing the "warm up" (aka: part 1 of the workout), we got to the actual workout.
All stations done for 2 minutes. Complete first part, then second, then repeat until timer goes.
Station 1: 10x Wall Balls, 10x Tap Jump with Ball  (Note: I used 25 lb ball)
50 JUMPING JACKS
*1 minute break*
Station 2: 20x KB Swings, 5x Burpees (Note: I used 20 lb kball)
15 BURPEES
*1 minute break*
Station 3: 10x Clean & Press, 15x Deadlift (Note: Not sure what weight the bar was I used... I think 20.)
100 MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS
*1 minute break*
Station 4: 10x Knee Ins, 10x Push Up (Note: Completed on medicine ball, which made it so it was basically like a 2 min. plank too. UGH!)
50 JUMPING JACKS
Station 5: 2x Carpet Pushes across gym, 20x Jump Squat
15 BURPEES
Station 6: 10x bicep curl (I used 10 pound weights), 20x push ups (with help of risers)
40 PUSH UPS

The warm up and that workout too about 43 minutes. I peaced out after that. The class actually kept going with a few on-the-fly exercises to make it a full 50-minute class (+ 10 more minutes of cool down/stretching), but I just was POOPED. Plus, I knew I was going to Signature Strength this morning and didn't want to completely slaughter my muscles before then. I was dripping in sweat though! 43 intense minutes! LOVED it.

Since I left about 15 minute early, I got home right around 7pm. The Hubs was just finishing up his dinner and some paperwork around the house (paying bills! Thanks, hubs!). I reminded him that he had the name of the day! You know what that meant...

Our favorite fro yo place gives a free cup of fro yo to you if you have their name of the day. So, we headed straight to fro yo right after I got home. DELICIOUS!

If you notice, I said we went RIGHT after I got home. As in, no dinner between then. WHOOPS. I ended up having some air popped popcorn post fro yo while icing my knee and then a handful of almonds and chocolate chips. Dinner of champions? My tummy was not too happy with that decision and was in full on-revolt mode by bedtime. Whoops. Next time, I promise to give you food with actual substance ok, tummy? Good.

That brings us to today! TUESDAY, TUESDAY, TUESDAY!!! Hey, it's ONE day closer to Friday!!!

I started the day of at the gym with a 60-minute Signature Strength class that KILLED my arms and abs! Wowza.

Post class I decided to try the TM again, since yesterday it went well and since the strength class didn't have TOO much legs (though I'm sure I'll still be crazy sore tomorrow). I did 2 miles in 18:04. I went back and forth for the first mile for 20 seconds at 9:30 and 40 seconds at 8:42. Then, for the last 1/2 mile I started at 8:30 pace and increased it ever :30 seconds. Ended up being an average of a 9:02/pace. I'll take it!

Kinda random end of post story: The Hubs texts me every morning to say good morning (vomit, I know) and to see how the gym went. Today I replied that it went good and that I did signature strength and then 2 miles in 18:04. Below is his reply.

He's so goofy... but, I love him. :)
