Weekly Workout Recap: 6/22-6/28

Weekly Workout Recap: 6/22-6/28

Sunday, 6/22: 5.5 mile walk with Fam
Monday, 6/23: 8-Minute Abs
Tuesday, 6/24: Biggest Loser Power Sculpt DVD & 2 mile walk & 5 minutes of planks
Wednesday, 6/25: Biggest Loser Power Sculpt DVD & 7.5 mile walk (split into 3 separate walks-- 4.5, .5, and 2.5)
Thursday, 6/26: JM30DS & 3.5 mile walk & 3 mile run
Friday, 6/27: 3 mile walk
Saturday, 6/28: 2 mile walk

Meh. I'll be honest. This week I felt like I was kinda "phoning it in" as Jillian says, especially the first half of the week. I halfassed some of the workouts, only giving it minimal effort. I could blame it on Bailey going through some sorta mini-sleep regression. I could blame it on being tired. I could blame it on crappy weather. I could blame it on about a gazillion things, but truth is- I just wasn't feeling it. I still DID it... just didn't give it 100%. Although I did RUN! Yep. A whooping 3 miles. Woah. More on the running later. Anyway- hopefully it's just a little slump and this week I'll be back at it, full force.

15 Thing Friday

1. The Hubs and I were playing with Bailey earlier this week and the Hubs declared Bailey needed some new toys as he was bored with her current ones. So, essentially he demanded that I go shopping. Tough life I lead. So, B and I went to Once Upon a Child (a second hand baby store) and Goodwill and got a 3 new toys for $8 total. WIN.

2. Bailey and I met a couple girlfriends (including this girl) at the beach last week. Baby's first sand and Lake Michigan experience!! FUN!!!!

3. Except when I got sunburned and looked like a lunatic with a gigantic rash all over. No, no. Just apparently the most uneven sunscreen job in the history of sunscreen. Way to go, Meagan. Way to go.

4. I'm a morning person, hands down. Mornings are my favorite. Give me a cup of coffee and let me play with Bailey on the floor at 7am and I am a happy, happy girl. Ask me to stay up til 11pm and I'll be one grumpy, tired girl. However, Bailey has decided she no longer likes a 6:30am wake up. Rather, she is up and at-em at 5am. NO, BAILEY, NO. 5am is TOO EARLY. GO BACK TO SLEEP. Ugh. I'm tiiiiiiiiired this week.

5. Seriously. Am I the only person in the world who doesn't care even a little bit about the World Cup? Or am I just the only person who isn't pretending to suddenly love soccer and care about the World Cup??

6. I really need to update the About Me section. I'm just way too lazy. Someday.

7. I'm trying to make an effort to care for myself better. You know, vitamins and remembering to brush my teeth everyday, etc. In said effort, I'm trying to improve my skin care routine. You know, from nonexistent to something. Before, I.... errr.... sometimes washed my face before bed. Usually with handsoap. Never in the morning. To be fair, I'm not wearing much makeup these days, so there's that. Anyway- I decided to start washing my face with facewash (woah!) every morning and night. ANNNND, I bought and have started using every morning my first wrinkle cream.
WOAH. I'm so old. And, yes- that is the Wal-Mart knockoff brand. FTW. Anyway- I really don't think I'm old or that I NEED an anti-wrinkle cream. I don't have any wrinkles and, while my general skin care routine is lacking, I do take good care to wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun (despite my rando-freak sunburn above), so I don't think my skin looks too bad overall. I'm just trying to be proactive. Yes, I am a freak.

8. Finally, Indiana. #loveislove

9. I have a buy one, get one free coupon for Noodles and Company. I'm beyond excited. You can never have enough Pad Thai in your life.

10. Sadies shedding has been OUT OF CONTROL lately. I mean, she has always shed. Like SHED, but OMG. Right now it's worse than it has even been and I think I know why: a little, 14 pound nugget who has learned to crawl and whose favorite thing in the whole world is to crawl up to Sadie and try to eat her-- her ears, foot, nose, you name it. I think she's shedding as pay back. Like "Oh, you're going to stick my ear in your mouth? Well, I'm going to leave so much hair all over the floor you'll be covered in it and because you're so drooly it'll stick to your face too! Bwahaha!" This is my life.

11. Think I might actually make it to 15 things?? I'm skeptical.

12. Yesterday I baked like a gazillion cookies and I only ate... well, not too many. I'm calling it success.

13. Bailey's favorite place to play: under the desk chair.
That is, it's her favorite til she slams her head into the leg of the chair and starts freaking out. Not that she does that. Every. Single. Day.

14. And, yes. One of her favorite activities is trying to eat my shoes. I think it's the bright color? Yes, I let her. I mean- only for a second! And only the top part of the shoe. I mean, hello. I'm a good mother.

15. It's FRIDAY & I made it to 15!! Friday has a whole new meaning when you're a SAHM, but it's still FRIDAY! WAHOO!

HAPPY WEEKEND!!

Two Thing Thursday

Two Things on my To-Do List:
1. Pick up my wedding ring from the jewelry store. I'm still ringless and it's weird and I don't like it! Glad my ring came back in. Now, I just gotta go pick it up!
Done! Picked it up yesterday! Crazy how naked I feel without it. Good to have it back. :)

2. Vacuum the apartment. Holy dog hair, Sadie. She is shedding like crazy right now. It's baaaaad. Poor Bailey is constantly covered in hair now that she's crawling and drooling (so it sticks to her-- niiiice!) like a madman.

Two Workouts this Week:
1. Biggest Loser Workout DVD.
Yep- still renting workout DVD's from the library. Only done this one once and it was just sorta OK. I'll do the next level up and see if it's any better. Oh- but, WOAH! Jillian and Bob look so young! Blast from the past!!

2. 8-Minute Abs. I didn't do 8-Minute Arms too because my arms were still in pain (not really sore.... maybe I tore something?) from the crazy outside yard work the Hubs and I did over the weekend (ps- what a great workout yard work is! I was SO sweaty. OMG. I loved it!!).

Two Things I am OVER this Week:
1. Bailey waking up at 5am. Woah girl. GO BACK TO SLEEP. I'm a morning person, but COME ON. 6:30am is early enough. Really.

2. The rain. The constant, downpour apocalypse style rain. We've gotten caught outside in it twice. Never fun to get caught in a downpour, but MUCH LESS FUN to get caught in a downpour with a baby. Plus, Sadie is a GIANT baby when it rains. She either hides under the bed, in the closet, or wants to be RIGHT NEXT TO YOU (though what else is new here?).

Two Things I Have or Am Going to Cook This Week:
1. Chicken Burritos!! Based loosely on this recipe. Really, I just cooked a couple chicken breasts in the crockpot with some taco seasoning. Then, I chopped and sautéed some peppers, onions, corn, and black beans. Combine and put in tortilla (flour for us), then grill on grill pan. Oh, and then eat LOTS of guac on the side. Yum. Mexican food is always a win.

2. Cookies. Lots and lots of cookies. The Hubs has a family reunion this weekend and I volunteered to bring dessert! I'm planning to make 3 different kinds. I love baking!!

Two Shows I'm Watching:
1. Secret Life of the American Teenager. Ok, so this show is BAD. Like, really bad. Bad acting, bad story lines, bad drama, just bad. But, I'm hooked and gonna see it through. I'm watching an episode during Bailey's afternoon nap and sometimes after she goes to bed. I really don't like the show, but I'm invested. Thanks for the entertainment, Netflix Instant!

2. Lost. Yep. The Hubs and I are still making our way through Lost. We're in the middle of Season 3. Goodness, I love this show. I forgot how much. However, it is also really, really stupid at parts too and I definitely forgot how much. The smoke monster? Come on. Stupid.
(Note: We're still cable-free and loving it! Great decision. Of course, the Hubs hasn't been faced with college basketball season yet, but so far, so good!)

WIAW: SAHMing It

You guessed it! It's been a while, so I figured it was time for another fun round of WIAW!!

Need a refresher on what WIAW is? Check out this blog to learn more.

Breakfast: 7am

Coffee (duh) with creamer and stevia, cinnamon raisin English muffin and a side of watermelon. OK, more than a side. Like, a fourth of a watermelon.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Bailey had watermelon and zucchini. Breakfast of baby champions.

Snack: 10am:

Hunger hit again pretty quickly after breakfast, so I snacked on a Kashi bar. And an pictured Diet Pepsi. Yep. Diet Pepsi at 10am. I'm awesome.

Lunch: 2pm
I don't eat lunch until I put Bailey down for her afternoon nap, so thank goodness for that morning snack! Lunch was a 1-egg + 2-egg white omelette with low-fat mozzarella cheese and lots and lots and lots of chips and salsa. A BIG perk of being home is that I can MAKE a lunch and not have to have it be something pack-able. LOVE eggs for lunch!

Snack: 4pm
Unpictured pretzels and peanut butter. I could eat this snack everyday. Who am I kidding-- I do eat this snack everyday. Mmmmm.... PEANUT BUTTER.

 Dinner: 6pm
Pioneer Woman's Lasagna Roll-Ups with a side of green beans and a flavored water. YUM.

Then I stopped taking pictures, but better believe there was ice cream later that night. Duh.

Weekly Workout Recap: 6/15-6/21

Weekly Workout Recap: 6/15-6/21

Sunday, 6/15: None
Monday, 6/16: Bob Harper's 45-minute "Beginner's Weight Loss Transformation"
Tuesday, 6/17: 1.5 mile walk
Wednesday, 6/18: JM30DS
Thursday, 6/19: JM30DS
Friday, 6/20: Bob Harper's 45-minute "Beginner's Weight Loss Transformation"
Saturday, 6/21: 25 minutes of Bob Harpers DVD & 3+ hours of intense yard work (and I do mean intense... shoveling, mulching, moving logs, etc.)

I feel like I'm getting into a pretty solid routine and workouts are becoming the norm, not the "if I have time". It's definitely helpful that Bailey is becoming a pretty consistent napper and we have a good schedule down for the most part. Certainly not perfect, but decent. Not a ton of walks this week-- mother nature was pretty ragey and had thunderstorms on and off all week. Get it together, Mother Nature.

Dear Bob Harper

Dear Bob Harper,

First, I admit it. While I liked you, I never loved you. I always thought I was a Jillian Michael's girl. I love her 30-Day Shred and think I'd do better with her as a personal trainer on Biggest Loser than with you. No offense, I just feel like I'd need more of an ass-kicking than touchy feely.

(What? You've never thought about which trainer you'd want on Biggest Loser? Bet you're thinking about it now.)

Anyway- I was always Team Jillian. And, while I still love me some Jillian, you've officially made me conflicted and a loyal member of Team Bob now too.

(Good think I'll never be on Biggest Loser and have to only have 1 of them, huh?)

Your workout DVD's are KICKING MY ASS and I kinda love it.

Here's the thing though. I recently rented your "Beginners Weight Loss Transformation" from my local library.

I almost didn't get it because, while I'm certainly no badass, I don't really think I'm a beginner either. Alas, it was the only one of your DVDs available, so I figured I'd go with it and modify to make it harder if needed.

Yeah. Silly, silly, Meagan.

Dude. Bob. That shit was intense. I think the only thing that made it "beginner" compared to your other DVD that I've done is that it's "only" 45 minutes long. Other than that- dude. That was hardcore. My muscles were shaking. I was dripping in sweat. Like, my hair is soaked sorta sweat not some little glisten sweat.

Don't get me wrong. I loved it. Every grueling second (even if I did almost turn it off 10 times). But, I really think you need to reevaluate what the word BEGINNER means. Or maybe I need to reevaluate if I'm actually a beginner or not? Hmmmm.

Anyway- beginner level or not, thanks for the great workout. You've definitely given Jillian a run for her money.

Love,
Meagan

Weekly Workout Recap: 6/8-6/14

Weekly Workout Recap: 6/8-6/14

Sunday, 6/8: 20 minutes of Bob Harpers DVD & 4 mile walk w/ the Fam
Monday, 6/9: JM30DS
Tuesday, 6/10: 8MA8MA & 5 minutes of planks
Wednesday, 6/11: None
Thursday, 6/12: Bob Harper's "Beginner's Weight Loss Transformation" (see review soon) & 1.5 mile walk
Friday, 6/13: JM30DS & 2- 3.5 mile walks
Saturday, 6/14: 5 mile walk

I'm pretty proud of this week. It was a stressful week for me with some personal stuff going on and I had a lot of errands and such to do so I kinda went into the week thinking I'd be lucky if I got a few walks in (What-- you don't lay in bed on Sunday night thinking about when/how/what your weeks workouts are going to look like? No? Just me? Huh. Interesting.). I'm proud that I didn't let a stressful or busy week deter me and I still got a solid workout in on most days (though I hardly got any walks in... darn rain!). I'm a firm believer that we're almost never "too busy"--- we just choose to spend our time doing something else (whether that's sleep or work or family or whatever, which are all EXCELLENT choices of things to spend our time on). I've certainly chosen to spend my time on other things and used the "I'm too busy" excuse a lot, but I'm happy this week I sucked it up and made it work. One bonus point for me!

10 Thing Friday

1. This is a special edition of 15 Thing Friday called 10 Thing Friday because there's no way I'll be able to come up with 15 things. Blogging at its finest right here.

2. I have to get my wedding and engagement rings inspected every 6-months as part of the lifetime warranty. So, I took mine this week and they told me it needs to be replated or whatever. All I know is I am now ringless for approximately 3 weeks and it is WEIRD.
I keep freaking out when I'm washing my hands thinking they slipped off and are now down the drain. Wonder how weird it will feel when they're back on after being off for so long?

3. I got a shirt from Old Navy for $2.47. Score. But, how does this even happen? Like, this is a cute shirt, right? Why would it be so cheap? I'm suspicious.

4. I'm obsessed with Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi right now. So much better than regular Diet Pepsi. It just screams summer to me for some reason. Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi, watermelon and the smells of grass and sunscreen = summer. I'm weird.

5. Speaking of watermelon, Bailey and I have eaten an entire watermelon by ourselves in 5 days. And by Bailey and I, I really mean me as B eats like 1 small piece a day.
Zucchini and watermelon. Lunch of champions.

6. Apparently it's the World Cup. I only know this because of Facebook. Apparently everyone I know are suddenly HUGE soccer fans. Who knew?

7. I'm semi-crunchy about some stuff. I had a natural birth. We delayed cord cutting. We baby wear. I breastfeed. However, I'm not SUPER crunchy. No homebirth. No placenta eating. No cloth diapers. Anyway- regardless-- this shit is funny.

8. Aw, crap. I didn't even make it to 10 things. Oh well. Happy Weekend!!

Bailey 7 Month Update

Age: 7 months! Officially closer to a year than a newborn. Whaaaaat? When did that happen??

Size: Not sure on height/weight, but I'd guess about 13 pounds. She's juuuust outgrowing her 0-3 months clothes. We've worn a few 3-6 month outfits, mainly because they're going to be out of season (we were gifted a few long sleeve ones) and because I'm bored with the 0-3 month stuff and because most the 0-3 month stuff is starting to be too warm (it's almost all long sleeve). She's still comfortably in size 2 diapers. Ok, ok-- actually, they're still big. I really jumped the gun moving her up to size 2 and should have stayed in size 1 longer. Oh well.

Sleep: She's been pretty good this month! We started out having some making it til DWT (desired wake time) issues. I want her to get up at our DWT of 6:30am and she was getting up at 5:30am, when the Hubs and I were getting up. Nooooo, Bailey! TOO EARLY!! I started not getting up with the Hubs (mainly b/c I am lazy) and realized Bailey didn't get up either. I think she hears or smells me or something if I get up at 5:30am. When I stay in bed til 6:30, she stays in bed til 6:30am. Interesting. Weirdo child. Anyway- so, that's what we've been doing and it's working. I've changed my workout time to her first nap and all is right with the world again. She's still going down for the night at about 7pm and gets a bottle of pumped milk (about 4.5-5 ounces) at about 10:15pm from the Hubs and then is up once in the MOTN, usually about 3am. Since she goes right back down, I really don't mind the MOTN feed. Sure, I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOOOVE her to cut it, but it's cool. I think she'll cut it on her own in the next few months. Til then, I'll take the sleepy baby snuggles while the rest of the world is snoozing away.

Oh! And, very excitingly, she's slept through the night three times during this month. A pattern? Nope. But, hey- I'll take those nights when they come! And, I think it's a good sign that that pattern MIGHT be getting close!!

Nursing: Same. As is good. I'm counting down the moments til I can stop pumping, but it's all good. Very, very happy with how great our nursing relationship has gone. We're still nursing the same number of times: 6:30am, 9:30am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm, 6:30pm, then a bottle from the Hubs at 10:15pm and a MOTN nursing session usually sometime around 3:30am.

Likes: Oh, she's a Daddy's girl through and through. He gets home from work and girl lights up. He makes her giggle nonstop. I love it.

She still loves Sadie too. Poor Sadie is such a good sport. Baileys idea of "playing with the dog" consists of trying to eat the dogs ears and grab the dogs eyes. Fun. They are the cutest together. I'm trying to teach Sadie the "babysit" command (aka- come here and let Bailey torture you). She hasn't picked it up just yet. We'll get there.

She also loves being on her belly, trying to crawl and  stand, smiling this big, toofy grin, trying to turn the pages of a book, being on her belly, chewing on EVERYHING especially her sippy cup and her hands, her feet and bathtime.

Dislikes: The darn carseat. I think this will be a carseat-lifelong struggle. She also gets very, very grumpy the minute the clock strikes 6:25pm (aka: time to change into jammies and start nursing). I don't know what it is. Doesn't matter what we're doing, how late she napped or ate last... she just hates bedtime, but then goes down super easily. Have I mentioned she's a weirdo? It's cool. It was bound to happen with us as her parents.

New This Month/Special Moments/Milestones: This was a BIG month for Bailey! She has started....

-Solids! We've done mainly Baby Led Weaning and have gone with regular food. We do also give her baby cereal, as the doctor suggested it to ensure B gets grains. She LOVES the cereal, so no complaints here. We've tried avocado, waffle, apple, peach, sweet potato (her favorite), banana, baby mums/puffs, and baby food pureed prunes, mixed veggie, and squash. Girl wanted almost nothing to do with any of the purees.

-Drinking water out of a sippy cup

-Sitting up on her own. She's still wobbly... she just has very little interest in sitting up. She'd much rather stand or try to crawl.

-Sitting in a high chair at a restaurant

-Swimming in a pool

Girl has been BUSY. She is thiiiiiiis close to crawling, too. Girl is working on it so hard and gets so frustrated that she just hasn't quite figured out the mechanics. I'm pretty sure she'll have it down by the end of this month for sure.

Favorite "Home" Workouts

Since having Bailey, my life has changed pretty darn dramatically. Someone else's needs are  without a doubt more important than mine. Long gone are the days of anything more than 6-hours of consecutive sleep. I don't even remember what sleeping past 6:30am feels like, let alone staying up past 10pm. The TV is rarely on these days and my Pandora station is Einstein Kids instead of Eminem (ok, it was never Eminem, but I thought you'd make fun of me if I said Britney Spears or Taylor Swift). Our living room looks like a toy store and I spend more time nursing in a day than I do on almost anything else.

And, I wouldn't have it any other way. My life is 1000000% better today than it was pre-Bailey. I wouldn't trade it for a single thing.

Buuuut, that doesn't mean it isn't different. And different isn't always easy.

One big way my life has changed is my workouts. I simply cannot leave for a 3+ hour run right now. Baby's gotta eat and I'm her 24/7 cafeteria. Even though I pump and the hubs could give her a bottle, by 3 hours, I'd be so engorged and uncomfortable I could barely walk, let alone run. I also no longer work, which means no guaranteed lunch hour workouts. Runches, I miss you. And, since we've moved, we don't belong to a gym which means the elliptical is nothing but a distant memory.

But, that doesn't mean I can't workout. It's just had to change. 1 small change among many lately. So, my workouts now look different. They look a lot more similar to what they did when I was on maternity leave, though I think the intensity is greater now and there are a LOOOOOT more walks. I love home workout DVDs. I also HATE home workout DVDs. They can be SOOOO hit or miss. And, I've tried about a million. Please tell me I'm not the only person who has bought a workout DVD because it looks good only to find that it was the worst $10 you ever spent because you can't watch the stupid DVD without wanting to punch the annoying lady in the face. Yeaaaaaah. Anyway-- to save you the trouble of trying to sift through the gazillion options to find a good one (& because this girl suggested I cover this topic), I thought I'd tell you my 4 favorite home workouts...

Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred
Pros:
-GOOD, solid workout. This shit will make you sore. Or at least, it makes me sore. This workout is no joke.
-It's only 20 minutes. Quick and hardcore.
-Varied level of difficulty so good for a beginner or someone more experienced
-All the equipment you need is hand weights

Cons:
-Leaves you sore! LOL. I just mean, it's difficult to do numerous days in a row because you will get sore.
-Can get repetitive after you've done it a gazillion times (though, at least there are 3 different levels, which mixes it up a lot better).
-Lots of jumping, which in a second floor apartment is kinda tough.
-You need a decent amount. Not a ton, but more than some of the others.

8-Minute Abs and 8-Minute Arms
Pros:
-Quick! Who doesn't have 8 minutes? Or 16 if you do both? And it's really hard to talk yourself out of a workout when it's only 16 minutes. You've got 16 minutes. I promise.
-Easy moves & beginner (& advanced level) friendly. It's not "hard" per say. It's effective, but isn't going to make you not be able to move the next day.
-Hello. The classic 80s workout attire. Love, love, love. If nothing else, it's entertaining.

-Almost no space needed.
-No equipment except hand weights needed.

Cons:
-Not the most intense workout.
-Repetitive after you've done is 987482 times. I can quote the entire thing like it's Wedding Crashers.
-LAME music.

Nike Training Club
Pros:
-Easy to access, as it's right on my phone.
-Easy to vary (if you know what you're doing) to customize for you.
-Some of them (like the legs) don't need any equipment.
-They have videos to show you the moves if you don't know how to do one.
-You get to listen to your own music!

Cons:
-Some of the moves require a lot of space, which my apartment doesn't really provide. Plus, it's a TON of jumping and living on the 2nd floor, I don't really like to do all that much (you're welcome, downstairs neighbor).

Walks
Pros:
-Relaxing! And fresh air! And sun! Who doesn't love a walk?!? -Easy to do anywhere there's a sidewalk and don't need any equipment.

Cons:
-When it's just Bailey and I and we're out for a solid 1.5 hours, it can get a bit boring. I admit it.

Starting Solids: Baby Led Weaning (Sorta)

Now that Bailey is 6 months old (Say whaaaaaat??? When did that happen?!?!), we got the green light from the Doc and have officially started solids!

We waited til 6 months for a variety of reasons (like this articlethis article , this article and this article explain better than I ever would be able to). As I've said and won't babble too long about again, I think every family has to do what's best for them and this was what was best for us. We also wanted to do Baby-Led Weaning (read more about it here). According to that site:

  • Baby Led Weaning, quite simply, means letting your child feed themselves from the very start of weaning.
  • The distinct advantage of weaning at around six months is that by then, our children are developmentally capable of feeding themselves proper food, in other words – no more mush!
  • You just hand them the food in a suitably-sized piece and if they like it they eat it and if they don’t they won’t.
  • That’s the essence of Baby Led Weaning. No purees, no ice cube trays, no food processor, no potato masher, no baby rice, no weird fruit and veg combos… just you and your child, eating food that you enjoy with you and your family.

So, I read lots of websites, books, and watched several YouTube videos and felt pretty good. The Hubs and I brushed up on our baby CPR, just in case, and we were ready to go!

I knew we weren't going to go 100% with BLW, but wanted to go mainly with its philosophy of real foods and Bailey feeding herself. I'd say we're about 60% BLW so far. We do almost all real foods, but also do baby cereal and I definitely wouldn't say Bailey has the whole feeding herself thing down. She's working on it though. She'll get there.

Anyway--- we wanted to try solids for the first time in the morning, just in case she had some sort of reaction. Of course, the Hubs also wanted to be there for B's first food, so we waited til the  Saturday morning after her 6-month check up. We gave her slices of avocado, some with the skin still on to her help grip it and some with no skin. Girl wanted nothing to do with it. Everything, and I mean everything, else you put in front of her, she picks up and puts straight in her mouth. This-- she wouldn't even touch. Weirdo girl.

I didn't worry much. I'm trying to embrace the "food before one is just for fun!" mentality. I decided we'd try again Sunday and if she still didn't like it, we'd wait a few days and then try again. I didn't want to try a different food, as I wanted to try the no-new-food-every-3-day rule.

Sunday morning came and we did the same thing. This time she'd kinda pick it up, but didn't put it to her mouth. I tried to put some in her mouth and she just did not like it. Meanwhile, the Hubs is eating a frozen waffle next to her and he said she kept eyeing his waffle. So, I said - welp, let's give her some of that! So, I made a new non-syruped waffle and cut off a finger sized strip and gave it to her (clearly sending that whole no no-new-food-every-3-day rule to the wind). Girl LOVED it. Devoured it. Apparently waffles trump avocado and just like that her first food was officially WAFFLE. Am I thrilled about that being her first food? Meh. What can ya do! She loved it!

The next day we tried baby cereal and another solid (softened apple, I think?). Clearly, we're not doing exclusively BLW, as we're doing baby cereal. I also picked up a few jars of baby food to try out too. I want to be flexible and go with the flow about this whole food thing. I know... ME. Who would've thought.

Since the avocado/waffle incident, we've tried the following foods, generally sticking to the same food for 2 days-ish before trying a new one:
-Avocado
-Waffle
-Baby Cereal (mixed with pumped breastmilk)
-Apple
-Peach
-Toast
-Banana
-Sweet Potato
-Green Pepper
-Cantaloupe
-Watermelon
-Broccoli
-Baby Jar Puree: Prunes, Mixed Veggie, Squash
-Baby Puffs and Mums

So far, she's a decent eater. She LOVES sweet potatoes  and banana and goes to town when those are in front of her. She just sorta sucked the juice from the apple, peach, and cantaloupe and only when I would hold the chunk in her mouth. She HATED the babyfood squash, was just sorta OK with the mixed veggie and prunes. She definitely seems to prefer actual food over the jarred purees.

And, just like that- Bailey's eating real food! We started with 1 "meal" a day and after about 2 1/2 weeks, adding a second. We also do solids right after nursing so she isn't frustrated or grumpy from being hungry. Like I said early, food before one is just for fun. She still gets 99% of her nutrition from nursing. We're still nursing the same amount of times as before. Now, we just eat solids after the 6:30am and 12:30pm nursing sessions. In another few weeks we'll add a 3rd solids session between the 3:30pm and 6:30pm nursing sessions so we can have dinner as a family!

I'm really looking forward to Bailey continuing to try new foods. It's so fun seeing her expression as she picks up and puts the food in her mouth ("Is this for me??? I'm ALLOWED to put this in my mouth?? WAIT! This isn't a toy! This tastes funny!!"). I think we're going to slowly wen out the jarred food and cereal and go solely BLW. She seems to prefer it and, honestly, it's much easier and it's barely any bigger of a mess than jarred food (yet).

So, that's that! In the blink of an eye Bailey has gone from a teeny, tiny little premature baby to practically a toddler eating a banana. While I miss her little baby stage, each and every day is so much fun and I love each new stage more and more. Bring on the food!

Pretty good week! The Hubs and I are trying to get back into our groove of going for walks after work. It's tougher with Baileybug, as we have her bedtime to think of and such so definitely not going for any 4+ milers, but trying to go for a couple miles most nights. It's such good family bonding time! Plus, I really do want Bailey to grow up thinking going for walks and being active and such is just NORMAL. It's just what our family does. Like eating. Or sleeping. It's just a normal, no-big-deal, daily activity.

Other than walks, I tried to get some sort of strength done each day and did pretty good! I'd love, love, LOVE to get some jogging stroller runs back in, but by the time B and I can get out in the morning (after nursing and solids and nap 1 and like 12 diaper changes, etc.) it's too hot now! Yes, I just complained about heat even after the polar vortex winter we had. Bleah. I'm thinking of adjusting B's schedule soon so we'll see if that helps or makes it even more impossible. Time will tell! Til then, running will just be a do-it-when-I-can kinda thing. I'm sure if I really, really wanted to, I could cut the excuses and just make it work. For now, I'm 100% OK and enjoying walks and home workouts. To me, working out is something I ENJOY and do for FUN. Right now, walks and home workouts are that. Tomorrow, running maybe that and I'll run then. I'm a firm believer in doing what you WANT to do so it doesn't feel like torture.

15 Thing Friday

1. Our AC was broken when we moved into our new apartment. The maintenance guy has now been out 4 times and each time swears it's fixed. Nope. Still not fixed. I can't be mad though because the guy was like "each time I see you called in an issue I come to you first because I know you have this adorable little baby." Awwwww. Ok. Fine. I don't need working AC in 85*+ temps. (Edited to add: I started this post last week and never got around to adding enough to post it. The AC has since been fixed. THANK GOD.)

2. We started solids with Bailey. I won't go into much detail (on this post) but let me just say OMG the poop totally changes. Can we get the old poop back? Never thought I'd ever say a sentence like that.

3. It was the Hubs birthday yesterday. We're having his family bday dinner this weekend. I'm in charge of the dessert and when I asked him what he wanted he said an ice cream sundae bar. Who is he? Cake? Brownies? Cookies? Pie? Nah. I'm 100% cool with it and love ice cream, but I just find it so random. Maybe I'm the freak and it's totally normal?

4. Because of said dessert request, B and I have a mission today to find all things ice cream. Wish us luck.

5. Speaking of the Hubs birthday... he now works in an office where people celebrate birthdays and such (you know, instead of the 3 person office he used to work in). So, people bring donuts in for their birthdays to celebrate. 2 things about this... (see #6 & #7)

6. Why would the person whose birthday it is bring in donuts? Shouldn't the boss bring in donuts to celebrate their employees birthday or a co-worker or something? Just seems weird to me.

7. He didn't save me a donut. Epic fail. This calls for a Dunkin' expedition for me today. Totally justified.

8. #7 is pretty fitting as today is National Donut Day! Why are there and who invented all these random National Whatever Days? Don't we have enough holidays? Not that I'm complaining today. Hello. Donuts. Enough said.

9. Random fact of the day: There are twice as many kangaroos in Australia as there are people. The kangaroo population is estimated at about 40 million. (source)

10. I'm not one to get political or controversial via blog, but I kinda love this

11. Since I'm already going there, can I please tell you how freaking ANGRY it makes me that the world is OK with essentially naked pictures of Rihanna, but pictures of a mother breastfeeding her baby are controversial?
Why, world? Why? Baby's gotta eat. Rihanna's just naked. Which is fine. Be naked. Totally up to you. But, why are pics of this on FB ok, but pics of a mother breastfeeding are flagged as PORN? Seriously. I just don't get the world sometimes.

12. And, PS- I don't think her dress is "one of the most powerful feminist statements the pop world has made to date". I think it's a dress and she was trying to cause a stir and she did. End of story. Feminism is about a whole lot more than being mostly naked.

13. It's FRIDAY! Which doesn't mean a whole in the SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) world, but it DOES mean the Hubs is home all weekend which makes for a happy Meagan. I sorta like him still.

14. I'm ending with 14 because Bailey is battling naps because of a little terror named teething. UGH. I'm out.
