SPRING BREAK WEEK!!!! And while that's not quite as exciting as it could be... say, if I actually got OFF for all (or any) of Spring Break... it is still exciting because it means work is slooooower than usual and it gives me a bit of a much needed mental sanity break. Just in time too. It was getting rocky there for a while. Annnnyway-- slower than usual means time to get a mid-day workout in again, which is great! So, I slept in Monday and only worked out at lunch. Tuesday sday I did a morning and lunch workout. Wednesday and Thursday were both sleep in days with mid-day workouts. Friday I did manage to pull my ass outta the bed and make it to the early morning spin class. Two times in a week... I'll call that a win. But, I definitely had a hard time getting my booty up in the morning this week. Let's blame it on the time change and not just because I'm lazy, ok? :)

15 Thing Friday

1. I had an incredibly vivid dream Monday night that both the Hubs and I were vampires. And that it was totally normal. But, that we were like bad, vampires. Think True Blood meets Vampire Diaries or something. Note: I am not actively watching either of these shows. SUCH a weird, outta nowhere dream. Former pysch majors... got anything? What does this dream mean???

2. For the record, I'm not really a believer in the "dreams MEAN something" notion. I kinda think that's crap.
#truth

3. For the record part 2: I love both True Blood and Vampire Diaries. Though for the record-- True Blood, as F-ed up and weird as it is, beats Vampire Diaries any day.

But, I HATE Twilight and all things Twilight-ish. I watched the first 2 movies, basically because a friend was and I didn't have anything better to do, but MAN do they suck. SUUUUUCK. Like, painful to watch suck.
 (source)
And, yes-- I am 100% Team Harry Potter. Hermione could kick Bella's ass anyday.

4. Song of the Week: Miley Cyrus "Jolene"
I know. I know. MILEY CYRUS?? I know. But, I kinda love her (don't hate) and she sounds amazing in this. Promise. Listen to it before you judge. And, ok-- it's petty country, but I still dig it. I had never heard about, but saw this YouTube clip on this girls website and couldn't stop listening after that. Hooked.

5. Haha. This is kinda funny. We've already established that I have a big girl-crush on Jennifre Lawernce and I love all things Disney, so this article is right up my alley.

6. The Big 10 Men's Basketball Tourney started yesterday and lasts all weekend. AKA: The Hubs weekend (and even pre-weekend) plans are set.

Exhibit A:
See ya Monday, Hubs.

(EDITED: I wrote all that Thursday BEFORE Purdue played and LOST their first game. It was a sad night in our house. Silver lining?? I get my Husband back for the weekend!)

7. To be fair, I'm not exactly not invested either...

Guilty. GO ILLINI!!!

8. OMG. I had the BEST doughnut I've ever eaten in my whole life Thursday morning.
This may not look like much, but OMG. So good. I have no idea why or what made it so special, it was just deeeeelicious. I'm drooling right now just remembering how good it was. (Confession: I ADMIT IT. I totally had 2 of these.)

9. Celebrity crush of the week: Steve Carell. I KNOW. I know. Trust me. But.... check this out...
He's kind hot now in that nerdy hipster silver fox kinda way. Who knew?!?!

10. I WANT TO MAKE AND THEN EAT THIS RIGHT NOW. You had me at Bacon. Add Mac and Cheese and it's beyond a done deal.

11. Not much news in the celebrity fashion world this week. Bummer. I did like Olivia Wilde's look on the Tonight Show seen below.
Love the patter and fit of that dress and really love the pop of color with the red show.

12. I know you were wondering... I'm still watching Dawson's Creek. I swear, it's like the show that won't end. I realize that's crazy talk as I could just STOP WATCHING anytime I like... but, I swear, it's like beyond my control. I can't just QUIT. I gotta see it through. I'm sticking with you to the end, Dawson. Even if your whiney cry-baby antics kinda make me wanna punch you in the face.

13. Did you celebrate PI DAY??? I know I did!

14. I got nothing left. My brain is mush. It's a good thing it's Friday or it'd be a danger zone for my whole office/job.

15. Happy weekend. Make it a good one!

Dog Poop and Cereal

It's Spring Break on the college campus I work for this week. Which doesn't really mean much of anything to me, as I don't get the week off or anything. The week before a break sucks because all the students are like "So, what are YOU doing for XX Break??" and I have to be all like "Errr... I mean, I work. I don't get the week off like you do. Now excuse me while I stab my eyes out with this plastic spoon (That I was using to eat DCPBD straight out of the jar from. Don't judge.)." It's fun.

Anyway, because it's Spring Break, it's kinda an odd week around these parts. Campus looks and feels an awful lot like this all day this week...

EMPTY. Like, deadzone empty.

So, then WHY does the gym on campus look like this each time I've gone this week??

That's more people than are usually there when school's in session! WTF?!?! There was only ONE treadmill open yesterday. ONE. And, it wasn't MY treadmill (don't pretend like you don't have a personal favorite treadmill too). BLEAH.

Luckily, it cleared out a bit and I was about to do a random indoor track/TM workout. I like bouncing back and forth from the track to the mill for a few reasons...

1. BOREDOM. It really helps the workout fly by when you're only focusing on small time segments and not "OMG I HAVE 6 MORE MILES, KILL ME NOW".
Me too.

2. It makes it MUCH easier to keep track of distance. 1/2 mile on TM, 4 laps on track. That's 1 mile done. Easy peasy. Now, REPEAT. Anything to take the thinking out of running I'm all for.
 (source)

3. I know the indoor track isn't the same as running outside and it's still 100% flat, but I feel like it's a smidge better than the treadmill. So, it's nice to get a little of both.
Haha. Clearly not related at all, but SO TRUE.

So, anyway-- I dig the treadmill/track bounce back. So yesterday I did 3 miles on the track, 1.5 miles on the TM fast, .5 miles on the track recovery, 1 mile on the TM fast, .5 miles on the track recovery. Time flew by. I was GOING to do 10 minutes on the stair stepper beast that keeps kicking my ass, but there's only ONE in the whole gym and someone was on it. Rude.

The rest of the day was spent catching up on work. After I got home I took Sadie for a 2.5 mile walk, in the middle of which she decided it'd be fun to roll around in DOG SHIT. Not even her dog shit. Some other random dogs shit. It got ALL OVER her. Dumb dog. Love her, but damn! So, after we got home we had to do an emergency bath. Poor Sadie is petrified of baths. She stands perfectly, 100% still the whole time and just looks like she's being tortured. Poor girl. Breaks my heart every time, but it was unavoidable yesterday. The shit had to go.

By the time the walk and the emergency bath was over I was in NO mood to do anything remotely fancy for dinner, especially since the Hubs was working late so it was just me. Like, even microwaving something seemed too complicated. Enter-- cereal to the rescue.

Peanut Butter Puffins. Done and done.

WIAW: 3/12/13

As a reminder, What I Ate Wednesday (WIAW) is just a fun way to show/track what you eat/drink in any given day. For this weekend edition, I used Tuesday, March 12, 2013. As always, thanks to the brain power behind this operation,  our host!

Breakfast @ 9:30am:
Greek yogurt (yes, the Wal-Mart brand kind. Trust me when I say-- spend the extra $.08 cents and buy Chobani or Yoplait or something. This kind is not so good.) with Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch mixed in and a big, giant coffee. Told you this is what I have every.single.day. for breakfast. It's an adventurous day when I try a new type of cereal or yogurt flavor. Watch out, world. I am just so exciting.

Lunch @ 1:30pm:
Egg salad. SUPER easy (read: LAZY) egg salad. Basically, I made 4 hard boiled eggs (Put eggs in pot and cover with water. Bring to boil. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and cover. Let sit for 11 minutes. Done. Boom.), ditched half their yolks (which I then fed to Sadie who LOVED them!!), and then diced the rest of the yolks and all the whites and then mixed all that with a generous squirt of low-fat chipotle mayo. Add some s&p and a little chili powder (what can I say, I like things spicy!). DONE. It makes me lunch for 3 days. Turns out now that I've gotten over my irrational fear of making hard boiled eggs, I can't stop making them. I'm such a freak.

Anyway-- for lunch I had said egg sald on 2 pieces of homemade bread. Add some carrots, a sugarfree snackpack (STILL OBSESSED), and a Diet Cherry Coke (my one each day). I brought an apple, but 1 bite it I pitched it because it wasn't crunchy. I'm an apple snob.

Snack @ 2:30pm:
OMG- I know, I'm SOOOOO healthy. Baked Cheetos, FTW.

Dinner @ 7PM:
The Hubs and I have SO MUCH left overs in our fridge right now, but we also took chicken out of the freezer to thaw over the weekend that we planned to cook Sunday and didn't, so that had to get cooked last night.
We had some left over cooked bacon, so I stuffed each chicken breast with some bacon and some reduced fat chive onion cream cheese, then coated each breast in panko bread crumbs.

We also had some Brussels sprouts that were going to bad too, so I sliced/diced those up really thin and then sauteed those with a little EVOO, a spoonful of brown sugar and some diced almonds. DELICIOUS! I used to HATE Brussels sprouts, but served this way they are SO good.
I also had a sweet potato (which I cooked in the crock pot on Sunday) with a sliver of butter (the real stuff!!), a sprinkle of cinnamon and a spoonful of brown sugar. It was so, so, so good. YUUUUUUUUM. I devoured this plate.

Snack @ 8:15PM:
Even though I was really full from dinner, I couldn't get the idea of some "trail mix" (aka: almonds, mini marshmellows, raisins and chocolate chips) out of my head, so I had to have some. If I get the idea of something in my head sometimes it just will not go away until I just cave in and have it. This was one of those times. Worth every bite.

Scenes from the Weekend

Friday Night:
I surprised the Hubs with a Red Box (Alex Cross... trust me, skip it.) and the Hubs surprised me with a shamrock shake (I had 1/2 Friday night and 1/2 Sunday night)! Oh, we also made breakfast for dinner: scrambled eggs, Greek yogurt pancakes, and bacon. YUUUUM!!!!

Saturday Day:
I proctored a SAT exam, then hit the gym (running on the ol' treadmill). Exciting (picture-less) stuff.

Saturday Night:
The Hubs and I met a friend at Redamak's in New Buffalo, MI. It's about 45 minutes from our house and, trust me, the burgers are worth every, single minute spent in the car. Greasy burgers, fries, and good company. Perfection.

Also perfection? Wedding Crasher quote-off's with one of my BFF's in the car on the way to said burgers.
It's totally normal to randomly text your friends quotes from movies and to then spend the next 20+ minutes sending quotes back and forth, right? Totally.

Sunday Day:
First hit the gym for a quick run and a spinning class (added bonus-- there was a sub so it wasn't my least favorite teacher ever!! WIN!!). Then, the Hubs and I took my car into Sears for an oil change and because one of my windshield wiper blades decided to stop working. $250+, an oil change, a fixed wiper blade, and several other "needed routine maintenance items" later, we were back home for lunch and some cleaning. Much (picture-less) fun all around.

Sunday Night:
The Hubs and I had big dinner plans (grilled chicken breast, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts), but at about 4pm the Hubs got a call from his boss and we ended up taking an out-of-the blue hour drive to one of the sites his company is working with to check out a motion alarm that was going off. The hour drive there CLEARLY meant we had to get pizza on the hour drive back. It also meant a Reese's Egg. You know. Because driving automatically leads to Reese's Eggs. That's just science.

BUSY week. Not a lot of time for great workouts. Really seems like this trend of 1 week being a BA workout week and the next week being pretty low-key and crappy has been happening for a while. Oh well. Work's crazy busy and it is what it is. Getting in workouts when and where and how I can, but 2-a-days were NOT happening this week. Oh well. I think it was a pretty solid week overall.

15 Thing Friday

1. SAD DAY.
Enough said, right?? You'll be missed, DCPBD. You'll be missed. And, no-- I'm not being dramatic. The Hubs and I are only grocery shopping every other week so I'm SOL for at least a full week. D-A-N-G-E-R.

2. THIS article. Seriously.

3. This week KICKED MY ASS. Seriously. Wednesday I was thinking it was Friday. No good can come from that. None.

4. I am having a full blown love affair with pudding lately.
The Hubs went through a kick a while ago where he would have a snack pack at lunch everyday. He's moved onto FiberOne brownies, but now I have picked up his addiction and then some. I can't get enough. I even bought a BOX MIX of pudding to make and eat at home. WOAH. It was a first for me. I'm so sheltered. Anyway, me + pudding = love.

5. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT HUNGER GAMES!!!
New pics (their Capitol Portraits, if you read the books) came out and I am OBSESSED. Can't wait for it to come out.

6. I want these pants.
I would never have the balls to wear them, but I LOVE the idea of such a fun, spring color and that it's on a PANT, not a shirt. Love.

7. I do NOT want this skirt. Seriously. Who's buying this?? Is this back in fashion??? Ewwwww. Just ew. And, it has 4/5 hearts??? From WHO???? And, $69.90???? Noooooooo.

8. This weekend is Daylight Savings Time again.
Don't forget to turn your clocks FORWARD (remember, FALL back, SPRING forward--- get it??). Booooooo. It'll be nice to not get dark so early, but losing an hour of sleep BLOWS.

9. I made the same meal for dinner twice this week.
The Hubs asked me how many times I think I've eatten this meal during the past year... I'd estimate I've eaten this meal or some variation of it at least twice week on average. Food rut, party of 1.

10. This is a great blog about some big life questions and figuring out what you REALLY want out of life. Love Ali and her blog and this post really made me think and helped me put some shit into perspective.

11. I legit almost cried when watching the Biggest Loser makeover episode online this week.
I looooove Dani! And, OMG! Look how SKINNY she looks!!! Congrats, girl!

12. Time for some celebrity fashion. First, the WTF were they thinking's:
I kinda can't STAND the Kardashians (except Khole. Love her.), but even if I loved them... COME ON. WTF is this?? Is this 1982, Kourtney? And that hair and those shoe?!?!? NOOOOO. And, KIM. No, Kim. No. You're PREGNANT. Why are you wearing a see-through dress? No. No. No.

13. And the good looks:
Take d-bag James Franco out of that shot and it's perfection. Mila and Michelle-- you look amazing. The shoes, the dresses, the hair styles-- love.

14. I worked late Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. And, I have to proctor a SAT (not one of the little kid ones... a REAL one... a 4ish hour one. Aweeeeesome.) on Saturday. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Bitch, whine, complain. Bleaaaah.

15. #truth
