Scenes from the Weekend

Friday Night:
I surprised the Hubs with a Red Box (Alex Cross... trust me, skip it.) and the Hubs surprised me with a shamrock shake (I had 1/2 Friday night and 1/2 Sunday night)! Oh, we also made breakfast for dinner: scrambled eggs, Greek yogurt pancakes, and bacon. YUUUUM!!!!

Saturday Day:
I proctored a SAT exam, then hit the gym (running on the ol' treadmill). Exciting (picture-less) stuff.

Saturday Night:
The Hubs and I met a friend at Redamak's in New Buffalo, MI. It's about 45 minutes from our house and, trust me, the burgers are worth every, single minute spent in the car. Greasy burgers, fries, and good company. Perfection.

Also perfection? Wedding Crasher quote-off's with one of my BFF's in the car on the way to said burgers.
It's totally normal to randomly text your friends quotes from movies and to then spend the next 20+ minutes sending quotes back and forth, right? Totally.

Sunday Day:
First hit the gym for a quick run and a spinning class (added bonus-- there was a sub so it wasn't my least favorite teacher ever!! WIN!!). Then, the Hubs and I took my car into Sears for an oil change and because one of my windshield wiper blades decided to stop working. $250+, an oil change, a fixed wiper blade, and several other "needed routine maintenance items" later, we were back home for lunch and some cleaning. Much (picture-less) fun all around.

Sunday Night:
The Hubs and I had big dinner plans (grilled chicken breast, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts), but at about 4pm the Hubs got a call from his boss and we ended up taking an out-of-the blue hour drive to one of the sites his company is working with to check out a motion alarm that was going off. The hour drive there CLEARLY meant we had to get pizza on the hour drive back. It also meant a Reese's Egg. You know. Because driving automatically leads to Reese's Eggs. That's just science.

BUSY week. Not a lot of time for great workouts. Really seems like this trend of 1 week being a BA workout week and the next week being pretty low-key and crappy has been happening for a while. Oh well. Work's crazy busy and it is what it is. Getting in workouts when and where and how I can, but 2-a-days were NOT happening this week. Oh well. I think it was a pretty solid week overall.

15 Thing Friday

1. SAD DAY.
Enough said, right?? You'll be missed, DCPBD. You'll be missed. And, no-- I'm not being dramatic. The Hubs and I are only grocery shopping every other week so I'm SOL for at least a full week. D-A-N-G-E-R.

2. THIS article. Seriously.

3. This week KICKED MY ASS. Seriously. Wednesday I was thinking it was Friday. No good can come from that. None.

4. I am having a full blown love affair with pudding lately.
The Hubs went through a kick a while ago where he would have a snack pack at lunch everyday. He's moved onto FiberOne brownies, but now I have picked up his addiction and then some. I can't get enough. I even bought a BOX MIX of pudding to make and eat at home. WOAH. It was a first for me. I'm so sheltered. Anyway, me + pudding = love.

5. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT HUNGER GAMES!!!
New pics (their Capitol Portraits, if you read the books) came out and I am OBSESSED. Can't wait for it to come out.

6. I want these pants.
I would never have the balls to wear them, but I LOVE the idea of such a fun, spring color and that it's on a PANT, not a shirt. Love.

7. I do NOT want this skirt. Seriously. Who's buying this?? Is this back in fashion??? Ewwwww. Just ew. And, it has 4/5 hearts??? From WHO???? And, $69.90???? Noooooooo.

8. This weekend is Daylight Savings Time again.
Don't forget to turn your clocks FORWARD (remember, FALL back, SPRING forward--- get it??). Booooooo. It'll be nice to not get dark so early, but losing an hour of sleep BLOWS.

9. I made the same meal for dinner twice this week.
The Hubs asked me how many times I think I've eatten this meal during the past year... I'd estimate I've eaten this meal or some variation of it at least twice week on average. Food rut, party of 1.

10. This is a great blog about some big life questions and figuring out what you REALLY want out of life. Love Ali and her blog and this post really made me think and helped me put some shit into perspective.

11. I legit almost cried when watching the Biggest Loser makeover episode online this week.
I looooove Dani! And, OMG! Look how SKINNY she looks!!! Congrats, girl!

12. Time for some celebrity fashion. First, the WTF were they thinking's:
I kinda can't STAND the Kardashians (except Khole. Love her.), but even if I loved them... COME ON. WTF is this?? Is this 1982, Kourtney? And that hair and those shoe?!?!? NOOOOO. And, KIM. No, Kim. No. You're PREGNANT. Why are you wearing a see-through dress? No. No. No.

13. And the good looks:
Take d-bag James Franco out of that shot and it's perfection. Mila and Michelle-- you look amazing. The shoes, the dresses, the hair styles-- love.

14. I worked late Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week. And, I have to proctor a SAT (not one of the little kid ones... a REAL one... a 4ish hour one. Aweeeeesome.) on Saturday. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Bitch, whine, complain. Bleaaaah.

7.5 Miles, Jelly Beans & an Ass Kicking

Remember how I went apeshit crazy in search of Laffy Taffy Jelly Beans??? Well, I found them.

To be fair, my awesome MIL told us exactly where she bought them and as we were in town last night to get our taxes done (always fun), we just went to that exact store and bought two bags.

Yeaaaaah. Turns out, they kinda suck. I mean, I guess that's too harsh. They're OK. But, DEFINITELY not as good as I thought they would be. #epicfail

Before the disappointing Jelly Bean Incident of 2013 (it's an official event now), I got in a pretty good workout.

Yup. You read right. 7.5 miles in a 8:12 average pace. As in a SUB 8:15 pace. WHAAAAT??? Seriously, though... what???? I don't even know how that was possible. I was DRIPPING in sweat by the end. Proof?

Love that shiny, yet salt-ridden forehead.

Anyway, I did intervals, but a different kind that my usual addiction, aka: Yasso 800s. This time I did... wait for it... 400s. WOAH. SO DIFFERNT, I KNOW.

Well, kinda 400s. I was kinda all over the place. I warmed up with a mile at a 9:00 pace, then did .3 miles faaaaast, .7 miles @ 8:45 pace, .25 miles faaaaaaast, .75 mi @ 8:40 pace, and kinda followed that pattern-ish for the run, ending with the last mile at sub 8:00 pace. WOWZA that was tough. Loved every second.

My legs today, however, do not love me. They are SOOOOORE central. The 5:30am Signature Strength class where we LITERALLY did over 300 squats/lunges couldn't have helped mend that relationship any either. Wah wah.

In other news, work is still crazy busy and kicking my ass all over the place. Below is my calendar from this week.

Maybe you can't tell but there's verrrry little not-scheduled time on there. Like, all week. These are all individual student meetings, presentations, programs, or meetings. Somehow in the not-scheduled time I have to manage to do all my admin-y type work too. Awesome. I hate to bitch about being busy. I really do. I HATE being bored and would much rather be go-go-go than sit with nothing to do, but this week it's just kicking my ass. I'm exhausted all. the. time. Next week is our schools Spring Break, so hopefully it'll chill a little, at least for that week. Fingers crossed.

LR and a Cadbury Egg

PHEW! I honestly cannot believe it's only Tuesday. And, Tuesday morning at that! There are a lot of crazy things happening at work right now, but before we get to that, let's back up to the weekend...

I was out of town Thursday-Friday night for a conference, so when I got back Friday night the Hubs and I did our now bi-weekly grocery trip. Man! It's definitely nice to not have to go every week, but the trip when we do go is much more intense now! $120 later and we were back home. An episode of Dawson's Creek later and I was passed out.

Saturday morning I was up early to hit the gym for 5 miles and an Unleashed class. I'm LOVING the Saturday Unleashed class lately. Such a fun, nice change. And, the fact that it doesn't start til 9am and not at the butt-crack of dawn is a big added bonus.

After class I cashed in a Groupon deal I bought fooooorever ago for a shellac manicure and pedicure!
This was my first experience with shellac and I am in LOVE. 4 days later (and lots of dish-duty later), the nails still look that good. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. And, a pedicure is ALWAYS great! Definitely worth the $35 groupon price I paid. I have no idea how much a shellac mani is regular price, but I might start doing a little research. Nothing I'd do regularly, but a nice treat every once in a while.

Saturday night we went to the in-laws for a Mexican fiesta! Always fun! :)

Sunday I was up early-ish again for my first true long run in aggggges. Like, I'm talking since January.

13.1 miles later, I felt great! I managed to keep a sub 9:00 pace and finish the run in well under 2:00. While I'm not alllllll about the long runs right now, it felt good to get out there and have the legs moving for so long. The weather was a little chilly, but overall great for a run. It was definitely one of those "Weeeeeeeee!!! I looooove running!!!!!" kinda runs.

Post run the Hubs and I did some errand running, including going on a mad-hunt for Laffy Taffy jelly beans we saw at the in-laws house. 4 stores later (yes, you read right-- I made the Hubs check FOUR stores!) and we still couldn't track them down. FAIL. I'm still on the look out. They sound SOOOOOO good. Despite our fail this weekend, we did snag one of these yummy easter-time-only treats for each of us.
PURE perfection.

The rest of Sunday was spent relaxing and prepping food for all week: 1 loaf of fresh homemade bread, 3 lunches worth of egg salad (6 boiled eggs, tossing 1/2 the yolks) and 2 cups of brown rice, and a beef something crock pot meal (for the Hubs).

The weekend FLEW by!

This week is going to be a LONG week at work. Luckily, I'm leaving the office early Wednesday for our tax appointment. Like I mentioned, lots of craziness is happening at my work (which I obviously won't go into any more detail on) so lunch time workouts are a rarity and my general work load is increasing exponentially. It's just getting super hectic. Prime example? Last night I didn't leave work til....

That's be 8:47PM. And, this morning I was at my desk by...
11 hours in between. Some people SLEEP for over 11 hours a night, let alone only have 11 to commute, pack lunches and prep for the next day, get ready for bed, actually sleep, get up and shower and get ready and then commute again. And, yes-- you read right. Workout was definitely NOT listed in that list and did not happen this morning. Sleep trumped workout. And I'm not even a little sorry. I'm HOPING to squeeze a mid-day workout in today and think I have enough time between meetings (sorry I'm not sorry for not showering after, coworkers!). We'll see. Fingers crossed! :)

1 Rest Day

Well, for my lackluster previous week, this week I picked it back up. Starting with a pretty rediculous Monday. I felt like running. A lot. So, I did. Like I said, if I don't feel like running, I don't. The feeling comes back. This week is proof of that. The running bug came back-- hard. Monday I couldn't get enough. Sadly, I may have slightly overdone it and had some pretty achey shins and legs the next day. Whatever. It was worth every step. The rest of the week was decently solid too. I have a busy 3 week stretch with work, so lunch time workouts are limited for the next few weeks, plus I traveled for work Thursday-Friday, so that took out some of my normal workouts, but overall I'd say it was still a solid week. Plus, I got in an actual, legit, outside long run. It's been a WHILE since one of those and it felt great to get back out there! :)

15 Thing Friday... Late

1. The Oscars was this past weekend, so clearly we have some fashion to talk about. Bad news first? (Source for both pics)

Let's start with Jennifer Aniston. Girl is beyond beautiful. And this isn't even that bad of a look. It's a pretty dress. She looks just fine. But, that's the thing. Why is she looking "just fine" when she could look AMAZING? She's too hot to keep doing the same. exact. thing. over and over and over. Now, Anne Hathaway. Poor, Anne Hathaway. First, apparently you could see her nipples through that gown. FIRE YOUR STYLIST RIGHT NOW. Next, just no. This is the OSCARS. And you're NOMINATED. This dress isn't even "OK"... it's baaaad. And you KNEW the world would be watching you. No, just no.

2. Ready for the good news?? (Source for both pics)

Jennifer Lawrence, you can do no wrong. Love her. The dress is SUCH an Oscar dress. Where else can you wear something like that to? Beautiful. Flawless. Love. And, Jennifer Garner. SUCH a beautiful woman. I LOVE this look on her. I could do without the matchy-matchy shoes and a different clutch, but other than that-- LOVE. Great color, great jewels, great hair and makeup. Love.

I have a serious girl crush on both these women. Also-- how did either of them SIT in those dresses?!?! No, but seriously... how??

3. Honorable mention below. (Source for pic)
Kerry Washington looks stunning. The color works for her. The bling. The simple hair. She looks great. Love it.

4. In non celebrity fashion news-- I ran this week. For my lack of running last week, that funk sure ended quick. By the end of the day Monday I ran more JUST in that 1 day than I did all of last week. That's normal, right??

5. Speaking of running, my baby (she's like 26... not so baby anymore! Tear!!) sister and I are gonna run a race together this year! I'm beyond excited.
She is too. Promise. Even if her email doesn't have as many "!!!!" as mine did. She's excited. And, even if she's not-- we're doing it (hear me, Nat?!?!)!

6. Let's get back to some celebrity talk. I already talked about how I have a serious girl crush on Jennifer Lawrence. This article is BRILLANT. Please watch number #11. "What went through my mind when I fell down? A bad word that I can't say that starts with F." Love her.

7. And because this whole post is seeming to revolve around celebrities, can we talk about Britney Spears for a second. Now, anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Britney. LOVE. Her music is catchy and fun. My friend Minnette and I are full believers that if we met Britney in real life we'd all become BFFs. Clearly- love her. OK, ok-- she had a rough patch. A really rough patch. Agreed. But... look at her now!
I AM LITERALLY SPEECHLESS.Wait, oops. Correction: A flawless BRUNETTE legend made a surprise appearance at Elton John's party. (source)
Girl is HOT! She looks the best she has in YEARS and I couldn't be happier for her. Keep it up, Britney! And, can you put out a new CD too? I need some more mindless bubblegum pop in my life.

8. YES, Pandora. I am still here and I am still listening. I am ALWAYS still listening. STOP ASKING ME.
I must hit the "I'm still listening" button 15 times a day. MINIMUM.

9. I'm traveling this weekend to Indianapolis for a conference. 2 words: TRADER JOES.

10. Clearly I was beyond late in this post and I'm on to ten things... so, maybe we should re-word this post to 10 Things Friday??? But, that just doesn't have the same ring to it. So, we'll leave it at 15 and just say the last 5 items are just written in white ink on a white background. PERFECT.
