I'm a work in progress

Happy Tuesday!

Yesterday’s workout real quick… 60 minute spinning class (with some rocking music! Always makes the class FLY by!) and 55 minutes on the elliptical at lunch. After spinning I sat in the sauna at the gym for 15 minutes… heaven! I wish I had time to do that every morning. There’s just something SO relaxing about lying there in the crazy heat when your muscles are tired and just NOT MOVING. Love it.

Today’s workout was SUPER sweaty. Don’t believe me?
Grey might have been a bad color choice today.

No, I did not spill water on me. That’s 100% s-w-e-a-t. Gross, I know. I started off with the 5:30am (love it!) Signature Strength class at my gym. TONS of squats, lunges, bis, tris and abs. I used 10-pound weights and we used the Bosu-thing. I love when I leave and am already completely certain I’ll be sore the next day. After the class (which is 60 minutes), I rushed to the treadmills to get a couple miles in. 2.5 miles in 22:45 (9:05 pace). I honestly did not intend to go fast. My shins were screaming. But as many times as I told myself to slow it down and stop being an IDIOT, I just couldn’t seem to make myself actually hit the down button on the speed. Stupid, Meagan. Luckily, my shins felt fine by the time I was finished showering. I wish I had more time in the morning to get a few more miles in post-class, but to get to work by 8 2ish miles is pushing it for time. Oh well.

While I was in my Signature Strength class my tummy started GROWLING. I don’t eat before the gym because I’m usually just not hungry, so I generally eat at about 8:30am at my desk at work. Man—today I barely got through the door at work and was already searching for FOOD. I am just hungry today!

Work was pretty busy today and before I knew it, it was time for “lunch”. I got 5.5 miles in on the indoor track at my campus gym before SCARFING down lunch. Again—I guess it’s just a huuuungry day. I’m already thinking about dinner. Or a snack. Or both.

The mid-day run was… well, not a great life choice. Don’t get me wrong… while I was running I literally found myself thinking “WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I LOVE RUNNING!!!!!!”, despite some pretty intense shin pain. AGAIN, STUPID, MEAGAN. I know better. I really do. And yet—on I ran. I just “wanted to get a few more in”. AGAIN-- STUPID, MEAGAN. Next time. Next time I promise I’ll STOP. Next time I’ll remind myself I’d rather run the Chicago Marathon than run 5 ½ stupid miles today. Next time I’ll be better. I’m a work in progress. I’ll get there.

  1. Alright lady, I'm going to kick yo' bum! What's up with the pain in the shins? Are they splinty? Too much mileage? I am WORRIED! I know it's hard but why not take a few days off from running? You are doing such an amazing job working out but I am concerned that your runs are filled with pain. Do you need new shoes? Are you 'stick-ing' them? You don't want to end up with stress fractures!!!!

    1. I know, I know!!!! My shins are always my problem area. I don't know if they're "splinty" (LOL!), but they're troublesome. They never hurt when I run outside, but the TM and the indoor track bug them sometimes. I'm definitely overdue for a new pair of shoes, so I'm buying them online TODAY.

I'll be smarter. I promise! I am so smart! S-m-r-t! (please say you know where that's from?!?!?)

  2. Yes I agree - you need to take a break or consult your doctor about your mileage and other workouts to see what kind of break you need to take. You don't want to screw up your marathon! Like I told you, Aaron's sister did not run the marathon she trained for because of an injury. It does happen. Don't overdo it this early! And while I'm scolding you, I should mention eating before working out will probably help with the hunger problems. Just sayin'. :) I do think you're doing awesome with it all though and your motivation is top notch - but you really don't want to overdo it!

    1. I know, I know! No running today. Promise! :)

I'm usually not hungry til 9ish. Eating before makes my tummy realllllly angry during the workout. But, I eat after! Promise! :)
